CancerWatch

The Joint Action CancerWatch, coordinated by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), aims to contribute to improving the quality and availability of data from European population-based cancer registries, as well as contributing to the development of the European Health Data Space. 95 institutions from 30 countries are participating.

The Joint Action is structured into seven work packages (WP). Four of them are standard: coordination (WP1), communication and dissemination (WP2), evaluation (WP3), and sustainability (WP4); and three focus on technical aspects: improving operations and data quality of European population-based cancer registries (WP5), improving data quality and accessibility (WP6), and cancer surveillance and indicator calculation (WP7).

The Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of the Valencian Community (Fisabio), as a competent authority, actively participates in work packages WP5 and WP6, coordinating task 5.2.3 and task 6.1 respectively.

Task 5.2.3 aims to improve data capture from primary information sources (hospital discharges, drug prescription databases, electronic health records, etc.), mainly information related to tumor stage and treatment.

The objective of task 6.1 is to develop quality standards for European cancer registries and to establish a set of profiles and levels reflecting the different dimensions of quality, in order to facilitate data quality surveillance and monitor its evolution over time.
