Across Europe, the chances of receiving an early cancer diagnosis and surviving the disease vary considerably due to inequalities in preventive policies, access to state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments, and the care received. Currently, there is no systematic monitoring and reporting mechanism to track the cancer situation across the EU. The Joint Action on Contribution to the Cancer Inequalities Registry for Monitoring National Cancer Control Policies (OriON) will help reduce cancer inequalities across the Union.
The aim of the OriON Joint Action is to provide a mainly qualitative analysis of the national cancer control situation in Member States, including the status of implementation of the European Plan 'Beating Cancer' at national level, in a comparable and frequently updated manner, as well as to provide data and insights on socio-economic inequalities to complement and improve the analysis for the Cancer Inequalities Registry.
