The objective of this project is to investigate how prenatal and early life exposures affect the anthropometric and metabolic development of the child, and whether these effects can be mediated by epigenetic changes. It focuses on understanding how the nutritional and metabolic status of the pregnant mother, as well as other clinical parameters related to pregnancy and delivery, influence the child's metabolism during the first 1000 days of life. The research will be conducted in two cohorts of mothers and their offspring in countries with different income levels. Advanced genomics, microbiota analysis and epigenetic techniques will be used to explore these relationships. The project aims to generate new knowledge in basic sciences and public health, while the PhD. Pilar Francino acquires advanced skills and improves her career prospects.
