The development of the EU mobile app for cancer prevention is one of the flagship initiatives of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan to address the entire disease chain.
BUMPER's objective is to interact with the action that will design and develop the EU mobile app and provide guidance on the content and approach of the app, helping to ensure its scientific validity.
The project will integrate into all tasks and activities an evidence-based approach to address health literacy by engaging with a range of end users to understand potential barriers and enablers to the use of digital health tools such as the app, and will provide direct training to future developers of the app.
As part of the project, the Cancer and Public Health Research Area has developed the 'Health Literacy and Equity Guide for Digital Health Promotion'. This guide has been designed to support all researchers and professionals in the integration of the equity perspective, as well as, the digital health literacy, in all phases of the process of creating and implementating digital health promotion interventions. A total of 40 evidence-based general recommendations are included and organised into the following subtopics: Transversal recommendations, Research and Evaluation, Design, Validation, Promotion, and Dissemination phases.
In addition, the Fisabio team has also designed five factsheets that explain in a simple and accessible way the topics in the European Code Against Cancer on which the BUMPER project identified the least knowledge. These factsheets provide easy-to-understand information and useful tips to help citizens make informed decisions that reduce their risk of developing cancer.
